Advantages of Installing an Electric Dog Fence

There are different types of dog fences available in the market today. Instead of building a physical fence, you can opt for an electrical wireless dog fence system and enjoy some advantages that come with it. Your dog is like family to you, and you wouldn’t want a member of your family to wander off and go missing, so you need to keep your dog safe. But installing a fence isn’t suitable for every dog owner.

An electric fence is an invisible fence system that will give your dog a small static electric shock when it crosses the boundary. It doesn’t hurt; it’s simply a training aid that helps you create a reflex in your dog to stay within the boundaries of your yard.

Portability

One reason for using a wireless dog fence is the portability of the system. It is a system that you can carry anywhere you go with your dog. This is particularly beneficial to people who like taking their dogs everywhere they go.

For example, you may go for a picnic with your dog and still control its boundaries at the picnic site. Because electrical invisible fencing systems use radio waves instead of any physical barriers, you can easily install the fence anywhere you want.

Easy to install

Another great benefit that people get from using electrical dog fences is the ease of self-installation. You can easily set up a wireless dog fence within your compound or anywhere you want. Unlike physical fences, an electrical dog fence only takes a few minutes to install. You do not have to be an expert to do that.

You can simply follow the instruction provided. It is just a matter of connecting the boundary wires to the transmitter. Then turn the system on, and check that everything, including the collar, is working. You may have to dig a two to three inches deep trench along the proposed boundary and bury the fence wires.

Cost-Efficient

An electrical dog fence is one of the most cost-efficient solutions compared to standard fencing solutions like wood, concrete, and chain-link. Not only it has a low installation cost, but you will also be able to avoid additional maintenance costs of other fencing solutions like repainting, replacement, refinishing, and more.

In the long term, an electrical fence makes much more sense in terms of cost-effectiveness, as the only cost that you have to consider is the replacement of batteries. Of course, for physical fences, the actual price of the setup will depend on the size of your yard as well as the size of the perimeter where you want the fence installed, but most pet owners will be quite happy with the low cost of owning an invisible electrical fence.

We recommend checking the battery power once a week to make sure you get a low battery power. If you see it turned on, you will have time to buy or order a new invisible fence battery and replace it. If you have a rechargeable collar, you should check for low battery power, then remove the collar at a convenient time and put it to charge overnight or for a few hours if necessary.

Be aware that you will have several hours of downtime with the collar because the dog cannot be released from the yard until the collar is loaded and reattached.

Space Saver

A bulky physical fence can take up lots of spaces, especially if you already have a smaller yard. A fencing solution gives you the option to set the perimeter wherever you would like, leaving more open space for you to use for other things like decorating and landscaping.

Traditional fences tend to take up that precious real estate, and it’s not reconfigurable if needed. You don’t have to worry about unnecessarily losing space as an invisible fence is installed underground and virtually undetectable by people.

Requires Less Upkeep

Another benefit that you get from using a wireless dog fence is the low cost of maintenance. Wireless dog fences do not require regular maintenance like their physical counterparts. Physical fences can attract pests and can look bad if not painted regularly. Therefore, you should decide on a wireless fence system if you do not want routine maintenance.

With traditional fences, you must take care of normal wear and tear, make necessary repairs and other issues that you won’t have to worry about with an invisible fence. Electric fences are mostly once installed, then forget the system. Maintenance is very low, meaning you will have a completely trouble-free experience once the system is installed.

Although physical dog fences are much more commonplace nowadays, sometimes it’s just the right choice due to cost, or maybe you don’t have enough space and/or time for the installation of physical space. Whatever may be the reason, electrical fencing systems should be on your radar.

If you are a dog owner and want to provide the best safety to your dog but are not sure if you should invest in an electrical dog fence, here are some points to help you decide.
